Getting Started with Floating License

If you’re here, you’re probably trying to figure out how to get started with the nTop Floating License system, and this guide explains how to access your license and add users step by step. After reading this tutorial, you should be able to:

1. Account Set-Up

After you have purchased our Floating License, you will receive an email from no-reply@ntop.com. If you can't find it, it may be in your spam folder. If it isn't there, check out these tips and contact support if you still have issues.

  • Open the email.
  • Select here in the Click to set up or access your account.
    • This takes you to app.ntop.com, where you can set up a new password. Your username will be the email address you used to sign-up.
    • Set up a new password and click Save.
      • Once you set up a new password, you will be taken to the login screen
    • Login using your email address and new password.
      • You are now logged in to the nTop User Dashboard.

Note: If your link to set up your new account has expired, you can generate a new link by selecting Request. A new email will be sent to your email address.

  • If you already have an account with nTop, you can use the same credentials to log in to the Org. Admin dashboard.

2. Adding Users

The next step would be to add users to access the floating license as an Org. Admin, you can invite new users to your organization. If there are users who already belong to your organization, they’ll automatically appear in the Users tab of your Org. Admin dashboard.

Click on the Users Tab, and You can add a new user to your organization by selecting the Add User button.

The Add User button will open a modal window that’ll require you to input the following information:

  • Full Name
  • Email
  • For floating license, Team input (optional), you can select the Manage Teams button and create a Team and License input (optional) used for Named-User licenses.

Note: We don't have to assign a license in this step as we will be using a Floating License, and this feature is used for assigning Named-User licenses. You can find out more about our licensing options here

The Users will now receive a welcome email from us to set up their accounts once you have added them.

Tip: This article has instructions for them to follow if they have any issues getting started. The Users can now use their login to access our learning resources from nTop Learn and submit tickets with nTop Support.

You can edit existing user information by clicking on the Edit icon

Once you add a user, you cannot change their email address. You can, however, change their Full Name, Team, Password, and License.

If you encounter any issues adding a user to your organization, it could be due to a conflict in the database. Please contact support@ntop.com.

3. Assigning Users to Floating License

The third step of the process is to assign users to their floating license pools. If you have purchased a country-specific floating license, check Step 5 to assign a country before assigning users to the license as an Org. Admin can assign multiple users to their floating license pools so they can access nTop.

To assign a user to a floating license, Navigate to the Floating tab and select the Assign Seat icon in the right-side column next to the applicable license.

In the Assign Seat modal window, you can select the Users you want to add from the drop-down. After clicking Save, a warning appears if a user already has a previous license assigned.

Note: If a user is assigned to another license, it will remove that assignment in favor of the new assignment.

And that's it now the users assigned to the Floating license in this step can access nTop by checking out a license with their individual logins.

4. Checked Out Floating Licenses

You can identify which licenses are checked out by switching to Floating Tab in your Org. Admin dashboard. When users check out a floating license, their icon will highlight green. If you hover over the icon, you can see the user's name.

5. Assign Country

If you chose Country-Specific Floating licenses, you would have to select a country before being able to assign users to it. The exclamation point icon in the Location column denotes Country-Specific licenses that are yet to be assigned a country.

To assign a country, select the globe icon in the right-side column next to the applicable license in the Floating tab. From the Assign Country modal window, you can select the country from the drop-down. After clicking Assign, a new modal window will appear, asking you to type the country name in the text box, which is displayed in the grey box. This is an extra confirmation step, as once a country is selected, this cannot be changed for the subscription duration.

6. License Pools

As an Org. Admin, you can merge licenses into a single pool so 2+ users can access 2+ licenses for Global licenses and Country-Specific licenses within the same country. Only licenses that meet these criteria will have a merge licenses icon.
To Merge license pools, select the Merge Pools icon in the right-side column next to the applicable license in the Floating tab. From the Merge Licenses modal window, you can select the other pool to merge with from the drop-down. After clicking Merge, a new warning appears, asking you to confirm the merge. This is an extra confirmation step, as once two pools are merged, this cannot be changed for the subscription duration.

You have successfully navigated the Org. Admin. dashboard to add users and then assign them the Floating license.

If you still have questions, our support team will gladly help you.
