Is nTop cloud software?
nTop is a desktop product that leverages certain cloud services to deliver the best customer experience. One of the cloud services we offer is per-user based cloud licensing for nTop. Our cloud license requires an internet connection in order for you to register and authenticate your license to use the software.
You can receive a cloud license from nTop’s support team or by your company’s designated organization administrator if your company uses Organization Administration Licensing.
As an authorized user, you’ll receive a welcome invitation to create an account at app.ntop.com by setting a password. Once set, you’ll have access to your user dashboard, which gives you the ability to download the latest release of nTop. An overview of the user dashboard can be found here: nTop User Dashboard Guide
Once nTop is downloaded and installed, you will be prompted to login to the software. You must enter the same credentials used to login to your account at app.ntop.com.
Cloud licenses are “per-user” meaning the license is assigned to a specific user instead of a specific device. A user can use their license on several different devices as outlined in the nTop End-User License Agreement.
What are the installation requirements?
nTop is natively 64-Bit, and operates on Windows 10. The nTop installation file is a .msi file type. For more information regarding hardware requirements, please refer to the following article: nTop System and Licensing Requirements Guide
Why was I asked to login?
Your email and password is your license. In order to use your cloud license, you must login to nTop with these credentials.
While uncommon, here are some reasons you might be logged out of nTop:
- You are disconnected from the internet for more than 10 days.
- You haven’t used nTop in more than 30 days.
- You have logged out of the software through the user menu.
- Your license has expired.
- Your password has changed.
- Your license has been revoked.
Why can't I login?
If you log into nTop with your credentials and are prevented from doing so and receive the following message: “Unable to connect to nTop’s license server. Please contact your IT department and have them review the Licensing Quick Start Guide above.” it could mean one of several things:
- There is no internet connection, therefore our license server cannot be reached.
- Your company’s firewall is blocking the connection to the URLs used for our licensing server.
- Your company uses a proxy server and the settings of this proxy server have not been set in the login window of nTop.
We offer a series of articles on our support site to guide you through the process of modifying your firewall and proxy settings to enable you to utilize our cloud licensing services in your enterprise / corporate environment.
How do I receive software updates?
We’re an agile software company and as a result, we frequently release new versions of nTop. With our cloud services, you are notified via the software user interface when a new update is available. Provided that our updater URL has been allowlisted (see our allowlisting guide), you should be able to download the latest release of nTop.
Alternatively, you can access the latest release by downloading directly from your customer dashboard at app.ntop.com
If you reside in an enterprise environment you may be restricted from downloading and installing the latest release due to user access policies. In such cases please consult with your IT organization as to how to proceed to approve the installation.
Can I administer my own licenses?
Yes, your company can choose to administer its own per-user cloud licenses using our Cloud Licensing for Org. Admins. This gives a designated “Admin” at your company the ability to assign a pool of licenses to a set of users from different departments within the organization. To learn more, refer to the following article: Cloud Licensing for Org. Admins
