Question:
How to generate Host ID for Floating License
Answer:
To build a license file for you, we need the Host ID of the license server you plan to use. Note that Host ID is sometimes called the MAC Address or Physical Address or Ethernet Address.
P.S.: This is NOT the same as the 'Host Name', a name assigned to your computer.
You can generate the Host ID or Physical Address by:
1) Use the file in the automated email we sent you
2) Use the ipconfig command in your command prompt
1. Below are the instructions for how to generate the Host ID using the file we sent you:
-
Download and unzip the file you receive from the automated email we sent you. There are 2 tools to choose from:
-
lmutil (Command Line)
-
lmtools (GUI)
-
- Run lmutil or lmtools on the server you intend to use as described below, which will give you the Host ID to provide us so we can create your license file.
If you use lmtools:
-
- Start up lmtools
- Click the System Settings tab, locate the Hostid Settings box
- Locate the Ethernet box. The 12 alphanumeric characters address is the Host ID
- Send the Host ID to your Account Manager or Support to generate the license file. It should look like 00b0c9f2826f.
If you use lmutil:
- Run Windows Command Prompt (Start | Run | Type "cmd" and click OK)
- Change to the Download directory or where you have your lmultil.exe
- Enter the following command >lmutil.exe lmhostid
- The Host ID is 12 alphanumeric characters printed below your command.
- Send the Host ID to your Account Manager or Support to generate the license file. It should look like 00b0c9f2826f.
2. Below are the instructions for how to generate the Host ID using the command prompt directly:
- Run Windows Command Prompt (Start | Run | Type "cmd" and click OK)
- Enter the following command >ipconfig /all
- Find the entry in the output that says "Physical Address". It should look like this: 00-B0-C9-F2-82-6F.
