nTop Usage Data Options

nTop is a SaaS-licensed, desktop application, that runs locally and stores all the user generated files on the user's computer.

During the course of software usage, there are few types of data that are transferred to nTop cloud services to help nTop monitor the software’s integrity while helping nTop decide on how to improve its user experience & products. To learn more, please see our EULA and Privacy Policy.

Data Types

The table below outlines the various types of data that may be send to nTop depending on the user license type and usage data selections.

Data Type Description
License Authentication

Required data for cloud-authenticated licenses only, to validate and access the products/services.

This may consist of: User email and encrypted password,
Product name, session start/end times, device fingerprint ID, device OS, Geo-hash based on IP address.

The information is sent to: https://app.ntop.com/

Version Data

Required data to check for and deliver software updates.

This may consist of: sending current software version number, and receiving software update installer.

The information is sent to: https://updater.ntop.com/

Anonymous Usage Data

Required data used to help detect fraud, generate aggregated statistics, optimize features, and support internal operations.

This may consist of: Organization name,
User system information (CPU, GPU, OS information, software version, device type, and device ID), Crash reports, Blocks and UI features used.

The information is sent to: https://analytics.ntop.com/ and https://crashes.ntop.com/

Personalized Usage Data

Optional data used to provide personalized support/content and to generate individualized usage reports and statistics for customers.

This may consist of: User first name, last name, and email, that is appended to the required data listed above.

The information is sent to: https://analytics.ntop.com/

 

Notes

For the above listed data types to be transferred, the following conditions must be met:

  1. User has an active internet connection
  2. User firewall does not block the following nTop websites:

Users can disable Personalized Usage Data by any one of the following options:

  • During installation of nTop software, uncheck the “Personalize usage data” option in the “nTop Data” screen.
  • Turn off the “Personalize usage data” option In the File → Settings window of the nTop desktop application.

Note that IT Administrators can reach out to nTop Support if their organization requires them to disable the required data transfers listed in the table above.
