Why does thickening my part create rounded edges?

Question:

Why does thickening my part create rounded edges?

Can I thicken my part without rounded edges?

Applies to:

  • nTop
  • Thicken Body
  • Offset Body

Answer:

You cannot thicken your part without having rounded edges. This occurs because Implicits are made from Fields. When the implicit body is thickened, it follows the contours in its field. The image below shows a Box with contour lines on its field.

If we use a Thicken Body block on this box, the result lines up with the shape of the contours, depending on how much you are thickening the part.
