nTop Assistant is a standalone desktop tool that brings AI-powered help directly to your workflow without needing to switch to a browser tab. It's built on the same assistant available at docs.ntop.com and is designed for quick answers while you work: troubleshooting tips, best practices, and questions about how specific nTop features work.
What nTop Assistant is (and isn't)
- A separate application. nTop Assistant is downloaded and installed independently, and runs in its own process alongside nTop.
- Not connected to your open notebook. The Assistant has no access to the notebook you're working in. It cannot read your model, your parameters, or any file you haven't explicitly shared with it through screenshots or attachments.
- Built for quick help. It's intended for fast, in-the-moment questions, like how a feature works, why something isn't behaving as expected, or what the recommended approach is, instead of long, multi-step working sessions.
Downloading nTop Assistant
- Go to app.ntop.com and sign in.
- From your user dashboard, locate the nTop Assistant download.
- Download and install the application. Once installed, it runs as its own process, separate from nTop.
Using nTop Assistant
Once nTop Assistant is running, simply type your question. Good use cases include:
- Troubleshooting — "Why might my lattice body fail to generate?"
- Best practices — "What's the recommended way to set up a field-driven design?"
- Feature questions — "How does the Shell block handle open boundaries?"
Adding context with screenshots and files
You can optionally attach screenshots or other files to give the Assistant more context. For example, you might share a screenshot of an error message or attach a file relevant to your question. Anything you attach is sent to the AI for processing. Nothing is shared unless you choose to share it.
How your data is handled
- You control what's shared. The Assistant only sees what you type and what you explicitly attach. It has no connection to your open notebook or local files otherwise.
- Attachments are processed by the AI. Screenshots and files you attach are sent to the AI service to generate a response.
- Context lasts one turn. The Assistant retains conversation context in memory for a single turn only. It does not build up a persistent history of your session.
Important - ITAR and export-controlled environments: Do not use nTop Assistant in ITAR or other restricted environments where data must not leave your controlled systems. Because attached screenshots and files are sent to the AI for processing, the Assistant is not suitable for workflows involving export-controlled or otherwise sensitive data.

Does nTop Assistant see my notebook? No. It runs in a separate process and has no connection to your open notebook. It only receives what you type or attach.
