nTop 4.19 is here! This is a lighter release with our new FE Volume Mesh from CAD block to quickly generate FE Volume Mesh from an input CAD with no intermediate blocks and the ability to preserve CAD face. As with every release, nTop’s dedicated support team is ready to answer your questions. Please visit support.ntop.com to gain access to helpful tutorials and support articles.
FE Volume Mesh from CAD
Block Updates
FE Volume Mesh from CAD
- The FE Volume Mesh from CAD block makes generating an FE Volume Mesh easier by eliminating the intermediate steps of converting the imported CAD into a surface mesh, volume mesh, and then into an FE volume mesh into one block.
- The FE Volume Mesh from CAD block features a Preserved CAD Faces input to retain the faces in the resulting FE Mesh.
- The generated FE mesh will be associated with the CAD bodies used. This removes the need to associate mesh with the CAD bodies for boundary selection.
- This block can be used in workflows where CAD parts are imported for any simulation or optimization into nTop.
- Block Name: FE Volume Mesh from CAD
- Location: Simulation > Mesh
- Description: Create an FE Mesh of solid elements from a single solid CAD Body by discretizing and adding integration points of the desired order to each element within the mesh.
- Body: The input geometric discretization.
- Edge Length: The target edge length of the elements.
- Geometric Order: The geometric order of the finite elements.
- Span Angle: The maximum spanning angle for elements on a curved surface.
- Growth Rate: The rate at which the size of adjacent elements can grow.
- Feature Angle: The maximum angle used to compute the preserved edges in the input surface automatically.
- Min Edge Length: The minimum allowed edge length of the generated elements in the output mesh.
- Chord Height: The maximum distance from the midpoint of an element edge to the input surface.
- Min Feature Size: The minimum small feature size to control the deletion of small features.
- Preserved Faces: Faces to preserve in the resulting FE Mesh. An undefined value turns off face preservation.
Block Updates
- We have updated the Import CFD Analysis Result block to support importing the Ensight case gold file (*.encas and *.case) formats.
- We have updated one of the internal computations of the listed blocks. The observable changes would be a higher voxel count, different Mesh/CAD topologies, or vertex/face counts. However, the Mesh/CAD Body will remain within the specified tolerance.
- Offset Voxel Grid
