nTop 5.6 - What's New?

nTop 5.6 is here! This release has our new adaptive resolution feature, which increases rendering quality for complex implicit models. Scroll down to read more about it. As with every release, nTop's dedicated support team is ready to answer your questions. Please visit support.ntop.com to gain access to helpful tutorials and support articles.

Adaptive Resolution [Beta]

  • Adaptive Resolution increases rendering quality for complex implicit models by dynamically adjusting the local implicit resolution based on your view. The maximum resolution reachable is about 20x higher in each spatial dimension compared to "Highest" Resolution.
    • When this setting is on, you will be less likely to need the Precise Render feature to view the detail in your implicit model, and you should not have to worry about manually changing your resolution to arrive at the right level of detail.
    • This feature is well-suited for intricate implicit models such as high-density lattice infill, surface texture, thin structural ribs, dense interior channels, grilles, screens, and filters.
    • If you want to share feedback on this new feature, send a support ticket and we will forward it to the team.

Shift-Click and Hotkey Improvements

  • Shift-Click: You can easily select a sequence of blocks in the notebook by clicking on the first and last block in the set while holding down the shift key.
    • You can still use Ctrl-Click to add or remove from the selection.
    • This does not change the features that work on a multi-selection. Currently, the following hotkeys work for multi-selection: spacebar (collapse/uncollapse blocks), V (visibility), I (isolate), T (transparency), Ctrl+C (copy/paste), and Delete.
  • Tab: quickly navigate from block to block in the notebook with the tab key
    • You can also use the tab key to navigate from one input to the next.
  • Escape: use the escape key to deselect blocks.
    • If an input is selected, press escape once to deselect that input and again to deselect the block.

Block Updates

  • We now support importing VTK Unstructured Grid Files (*.vtu) files using the Import Model Result, Import Static Structural Result, and Import Static Thermal Results blocks.
  • We have updated the Quadrangulate Mesh block to improve the quality of the generated quad meshes. For more information, see the backwards compatibility notice here.

Bug Fixes

  • We fixed an issue with the Static Analysis that errored out with the "Self-intersecting elements found" message when inverted elements were present using the Mirror FE Mesh block.
  • We fixed an issue with the Implicit Body from Topology Optimization block that caused nTop to exit unexpectedly on rare occasions.
