nTop Platform 2.05 - What's New

Summary

nTopology’s nTop Platform 2.5 is here! This release features significant updates such as multithreaded simulation blocks for improved computation speed, improvements to our Slice and Slice Lattice blocks to give users more explicit slicing control, Type descriptions in block documentation to improve onboarding, and a handful of other great usage improvements. As with every release, nTopology’s dedicated support team is ready to help answer your questions.

New Features and Improvements

Block Documentation Type Descriptions

  • We’ve updated the Type catalog in Block Documentation to include Type descriptions to help users better understand the function of each Type.
  • To access Block Documentation, go to Help > Documentation and navigate to the Block Documentation menu and select Types: See an example below:

Documentation in Program Data

  • Documentation now resides in Program Data, which enables all users to access documentation regardless of their user privileges.
  • If you’d like to access documentation, please go the Help > Documentation.

Multithreaded Simulation

  • In order to utilize all the cores of your system and improve computation speed, the following simulation blocks are now multithreaded:
    • Buckling Analysis
    • Homogenize Unit Cell
    • Modal Analysis
    • Static Analysis
    • Topology Optimization
    • Thermal Analysis

Slice & Slice Lattice Block Updates

  • Slice:
    • Renamed to Slice Body.
    • Frame input is now optional and a toggle for Include negative Z has been introduced. When toggled to true, this feature will slice the object in the negative z-axis of the frame. By default, the frame is set at the XYZ origin.
    • Backward compatibility: Files containing the previous version of this block will open. Since the Frame input used to be required, it will remain in the now optional input. The Include negative Z parameter will be turned to true since this was the default behavior prior to introducing this option.

Usage Improvements

  • All Math blocks have been updated and optimized to handle large lists.
  • Collapse Mesh Vertices block now has a Distance Threshold parameter. Distance Threshold: Max distance to determine if vertices should be joined.
  • Exported FE Lattice with the lattice saved as a .cdb/.k format now imports properly.
  • nTop Platform no longer becomes unresponsive if the user downloads the latest update and closes the software.
  • STEP assemblies can now be imported, but like all other assembly types, they are currently imported as a flattened list of CAD Bodies.
  • The login window for nTop Platform now provides feedback when loading an expired local license.
